What we did not build
Virasat stands on other people's work. Everything below is used under its own licence, and the list is checked by a test against the real dependencies, so it cannot drift out of date.
In the product
Runs in the family's browser, or on the server answering them.
- Next.js (MIT). The framework: routing, rendering and the build.
- React (MIT). The user interface.
- Tailwind CSS (MIT). Styling, and the light and dark tokens.
- TypeScript (Apache-2.0). Types, checked on every push.
- Zod (MIT). Validates the rule files and the shapes the AI must return.
- Anthropic TypeScript SDK (MIT). Talks to the model that reads documents and holds the debate.
- lucide-react (ISC). The icons.
- clsx (MIT). Joins class names.
- pdf-lib (MIT). Builds the claim pack PDF.
- pdf-parse (Apache-2.0). Reads the text out of a tax statement PDF.
- js-yaml (MIT). Reads rule files written in YAML.
- Inter and Noto Sans Devanagari (SIL Open Font Licence 1.1). The typefaces, including the Hindi one.
For building and checking
Never reaches a visitor. These are how we know the numbers are true.
- Vitest (MIT). Runs the test suite.
- ESLint (MIT). Catches mistakes before they ship.
- Playwright (Apache-2.0). Drives a real browser for the accessibility audit.
- axe-core (MPL-2.0). Finds the accessibility violations we then fix.
- Lighthouse (Apache-2.0). Measures performance on desktop and on a throttled phone.
- PptxGenJS (MIT). Builds the pitch deck from code, so it rebuilds when a number changes.
- sharp (Apache-2.0). Prepares the screenshots in the deck.
- react-icons (MIT). Icons inside the deck.
- tsx (MIT). Runs the audit and cost scripts.
Services
Where it runs.
- Vercel (Commercial, free tier). Hosts the deployment the judges are looking at.
- GitHub Actions (Commercial, free tier). Runs lint, types and tests on every push.
- Upstash Redis (Commercial, free tier). One shared rate-limit counter across every serverless instance, over its REST API. Optional; without it the limit is per instance and the response header says so.
- Anthropic API (Commercial, pay as you go). The model behind document reading and the debate. You can bring your own key instead.
How this was built
Claude Code, by one developer, over the hackathon period.
The rules allow AI development tools and hold us responsible for what we submit. Here is how we take that on:
- Every claim on this site is re-checked by one command, npm run audit, which writes down failures as readily as passes.
- The rule engine, the part that decides what a family is told to do, is covered by tests and is never decided by a model.
- The sources behind every number are listed on this page, and were read rather than taken on trust.
- Nothing here was submitted to another competition, and no code was copied from another project.
